The Alienated

The Brother From Another Planet is a great expose on themes like race, immigration, and culture. It provides a great lens on the idea of Alienation as a black person. As a film, I really didn't enjoy the film necessarily, but the ideas, cinematography, and strange editing style made it fun to watch. The film is absolutely a low budget picture, which absolutely adds to the charm. The film stars "Joe Morton," as the alien who crash lands in Harlem. It shows him, a one legged character, limping throughout the city trying to find his way. He is completely mute which adds a really interesting complexity to his character, especially when he interacts with people who don't speak English. The idea of alienation is experienced by all, and especially by people with different cultural, race, or languages from the norm. This movie, in title alone, is great lens into that complex topic.
