A Strange New Nation

DJ Spooky's, Rebirth of a Nation, is a fascinating retelling of D.W Griffith’s controversial, really just racist film, Birth of a Nation. D.W Griffith has credited for making a masterpiece in this racist movie. It is highly credited as being one of the greatest films of the early 20th century for introducing different ways of filming, while in the same vein, also having overtly racist examples of African Americans. These displays of blatant racism are white men, playing black people, and committing horrific acts on white women to instill an outdated, incorrect narrative in the American public. DJ Spooky introduces a new narrative to the American public. He inlays this archaic racist film with a new narrative. He uses music and art to rewrite the film, reimagines the existing narrative, and challenge the viewer with the film and what it has done to the American people. In regard to afrofuturism, DJ Spooky uses a lot of futuristic imagery, music, and scenery to continue advancing the ideal of rewriting the film and adding a new perspective on the Birth of a Nation.
