Get Out, its The Thing With Two Heads

     The exploitation of black people in the United States as "technology" has persisted since slavery, never ceasing as a practice. Of course, since 1865, slavery has been abolished as a common practice, though the 13th amendment still allows for slavery through imprisonment, and even then some people still have a want to pursue slavery in legally precarious ways that some may not call slavery at face value.

    The Thing With Two Heads covers the area of "legal slavery" and general exploitation that is involved with the prison industrial complex. Jack, a death row inmate who is innocent of his crimes, decides to sign up for a science experiment since it's promised he would not go to the electric chair if he did so. Little did Jack know, the experiment was to have a racist white guy's head attached to him to save him from a terminal illness. The experiment is a success, though Jack is now subjected to being someone's form of transportation and body. Though the movie is a comedy, it shows the inhumanity inmates are treated with; being literally treated like a technology. And since the U.S. justice system is disproportionately biased towards black people, the whole exploitation of prisoners can be fairly summed up too an exploitation of black people.

 

    Jordan Peele's Get Out goes further than the exploitation of the U.S. prison system, replacing it with the upper class' exploitation of black people. Get Out is about a family who kidnaps black people and then replaces the mind of the black person with the mind of a white person. The family and it's followers believe that there is a duality of black people and white people that ultimately balances out. White people have superior intellect and black people have superior bodies. The white family decides that since you cant transfer someones body to another, they would simply put the white mind in a black body to create a superior being. The families actions simply throw away the real defining factors of these black people, their mind and personality, only keeping them as a husk controlled as a white mind. This of course is the ultimate wish of the white, racist upper class, to have complete control over black bodies for their own benefit.
