The Dirty Computers

Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer all encompasses what the future of an controlling state could look like. The world of Dirty Computer hosts an authoritarian, racist, capitalist, and overall society that hates people for being different. Anyone that is different in this world is labeled a dirty computer, and dirty computers can't stay different. These dirty computers swept up by the government to be put into prisons to have their brains reset and adjusted to how the government wants them to be.

Janelle Monáe releases "emotion picture" film Dirty Computer: Watch - Consequence

Monae's Dirty Computer fully shows why being different is important and how a world without difference is a horrible one. If the government tells you that being different is horrible for you and the others around you, the government clearly doesn't want you to exist. The world we live in now doesn't completely denounce being different, but being different sure does cause problems for those who are different. The ideal powerful leader in the eyes of our society is one that is white, male, straight, and cis, making all of those normal, and anything besides that different. Being different from that causes you to have less rights, more hate, and sometimes a higher chance of death. Being black in America makes you practically a target in the eyes of police, as well as being trans in America is becoming basically outlawed in some states. These things making people "different" are never choices and always just who people are, which makes the oppression against them horrific in manner. People just try to live their everyday lives, and the "normal" people hate it.
